Ryan Africa is acting head of commercial and chief financial officer at Ensham mine. He has extensive experience across finance, strategy, treasury, investor relations, and business performance, with a strong focus on aligning financial management with operational delivery and value creation.

Since 2024, Ryan has led Thungela’s operational finance function, responsible for business performance, tax and treasury. Prior to this, he established and led the investor relations function following Thungela’s demerger and subsequent listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange. Ryan held finance and business improvement roles at Anglo American’s Niobium and Phosphates business in Brazil between 2012 and 2016, and at Anglo American Coal from 2019.

Ryan brings a disciplined approach to financial and commercial management, with a proven track record of embedding performance-driven practices, supporting strategic decision-making, and enabling sustainable business outcomes. His broad experience across mining finance and commercial functions continues to support Thungela’s operational and strategic objectives.
