Ensham proudly hosts Nogoa Pastoral livestock in and around mining and rehabilitation areas as a joint business. Ensham has been a significant contributor to the Emerald community since 1993 and, for the past 25 years, has supported regional employment and local businesses. Ensham is committed to working with our local communities to create sustainable outcomes. The continued employment of the existing workforce at the Ensham Mine is of strategic economic and social significance to the Emerald locality and wider Central Highlands region.

Dan has over three decades of mining industry experience across diverse commodities, including various operational roles in both underground and opencut coal mines in central Queensland. He has also held several global leadership positions covering Australia, South Africa, Chile and Brazil, and was most recently a mining executive for Anglo American in Australia prior to joining Thungela.
Matthew Lumb is a highly accomplished manager with over 37 years of experience in the mining industry, specialising in operational efficiency, safety compliance, and workforce management. With a proven track record of leading large-scale mining operations, he consistently drives productivity while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards. His expertise in resource planning, equipment management, and regulatory compliance ensures seamless and efficient operations that align with industry best practices.
A results-driven leader, Matthew excels in overseeing complex mining activities with a strong emphasis on health and safety compliance. His proficiency in budget and cost control allows for strategic financial planning and resource optimisation, enhancing both operational efficiency and profitability. He is deeply committed to workforce training and supervision, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Peter is a Mining Engineer with over 2 decades of experience in underground coal longwall and bord & pillar mining methods throughout Queensland’s Bowen Basin, primarily in technical roles (Ventilation, Gas Drainage, Geology / Geotechnical, Mine Planning, Survey Support). He joined Ensham in 2013 when the bord & pillar operation was a trial project and has been an integral part of the operation growing from a 2 unit 1.6MtPa to 5 unit +4Mtpa operation, and the Surface Mine transition from an operating mine to rehabilitation phase. Peter holds the following qualifications :- Bachelor of Engineering (Mining); Graduate Diploma in Mine Ventilation; Graduate Diploma in Coal Mine Strata Control; 2nd Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency; Ventilation Officers Certificate of Competency; Registered Professional Engineer Queensland in the field of Mining.
Rod Hicks is a highly experienced mining professional with more than 40 years of experience in the Australian mining industry. Throughout his career, he has held a range of operational and leadership roles across open cut coal operations, developing extensive expertise in mining, production, safety, and operational improvement.
At Ensham, Rod leads the Surface Operations team, with responsibility for the safe, efficient and sustainable delivery of open cut mining activities. He is passionate about building capable teams, fostering a strong safety culture, and driving continuous improvement to achieve operational excellence.
Rod is a practical, people-focused leader who believes that success is built through collaboration, accountability and empowering frontline teams to deliver their best every day. His extensive industry knowledge and hands-on leadership style have made him a valued member of Ensham’s leadership team.
Outside of work, Rod enjoys spending time with family and making the most of the Central Queensland lifestyle.
Doris Prewett is a seasoned HR leader with over 19 years of experience in human resources and 21 years in the Australian mining industry. As Manager Human Resources at Ensham Mine, her role centres on driving workforce development, organisational growth, and compliance with the mining sector’s robust regulatory landscape. Dorris’ responsibilities cover a wide range of HR functions, from refining policies to mitigate legal and industrial risks to managing employee services, while fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
Throughout her career, Doris has demonstrated a strong commitment and dedication to effective human resources practices and change management within the resources sector. She has effectively leading and implementing HR strategies that strengthen talent acquisition, improve employee retention, foster strong relationships across the organisation and cultivates a positive workplace culture, while ensuring compliance in relation to the robust regulatory requirements of the mining industry.
