Responsible sourcing is important to us

Aligned to our business vision of creating a shared value for our stakeholders, our Responsible Sourcing Standard for Suppliers defines minimum sustainability requirements and decent work principles required by suppliers to Thungela. Within our business, the commitment to responsible sourcing prioritises ethical decision-making when purchasing goods and services. Thungela expects suppliers to meet all applicable laws – and share our commitment to improve people’s lives, society and our environment. Suppliers are a critical part of our business and includes providers of goods and services to Thungela and its subsidiaries, all agents, contractors, and customers. At Thungela, we have defined ‘5 Responsible Sourcing Pillars’, these contain important conditions for doing business with us:

Business Partners shall provide a safe and healthy work environment to prevent disease, accident and/or injury in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries where Thungela operates and countries in which the Business Partner is registered or conducts business.

Protect our environment

Business Partners must comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations including Thungela site requirements and minimize the environmental impact through efficient use of resources, waste management, and pollution prevention. Business Partner must ensure that business is conducted in a manner which embraces sustainability and reduces environmental impact.

Respect labour and human rights
Respect labour and human rights

Business Partners shall treat people with respect and dignity and respect all labour and human right throughout their supply and value chain. Business Partners must Combat all forms of modern slavery- eliminate forced labour, child labour, trafficked labour, forced, bonded and involuntary prison labour.

Contribute to thriving communities
Contribute to thriving communities

Business Partners shall comply with all Thungela Social policy and social toolkit requirements that include, community engagement activities, local employment, local procurement, community training opportunities, socio-economic development initiatives impacting the community.

Conduct business fairly and with integrity
Conduct business fairly and with integrity

Business Partners must comply with all applicable local, national, and international laws. Business Partners are prohibited from all forms of bribery, corruption, extortion or embezzlement. or to allow anyone else to act in this manner on their behalf.
